About MK BID

A Business Improvement District (BID) is a fast and efficient way of creating significant improvements to a city centre, providing services that go above and beyond those of the local authority. Successfully mandated by businesses in 2017 and again in 2021, MyMiltonKeynes has provided £5 million of additional improvements to Central Milton Keynes, creating a safer, cleaner, better connected, smarter and more vibrant city centre for all.

How we work for you

There are now over 320 BIDs in the UK that make a significant impact to their respective towns and cities. We often use the analogy of a BID being like the icing on the top of a cake. The services provided by local councils are an essential ingredient i.e., the cake, but there’s only so much they can do within their budgets, resources and remits.

The BID helps to improve on those essential services:

  • cleaning even deeper,
  • landscaping even more areas,
  • introducing vibrant flower displays,
  • creating unique and memorable experiences and events,
  • providing an additional police presence,
  • offering a free employee shuttle service,
  • stepping up support for local charities, the list goes on…

While Central Milton Keynes could get by without the icing – and in our case we like to think the cherry and sprinkles too – it would be a lot less desirable of a place to live, work and visit as a result. Our business-funded partnership gives businesses within Central Milton Keynes the power to get together, decide what improvements you want to make in your city centre and to determine how changes will be managed.
