MyMiltonKeynes BID welcomes new Board Directors

MyMiltonKeynes – the city’s business improvement district (BID) has welcomed new additions to its Board of Directors, who together will help shape the strategic direction of the BID at an exciting time for the city centre.

Adam Sciberras, from Milton Keynes Development Partnership (MKDP), Simon Martin, from Midsummer Place shopping centre and Tom Miell, from Popworld and Chair of the Milton Keynes Barwatch group, were appointed as non-executive directors to the MyMiltonKeynes BID Board, at a directors meeting on 9th February 2024.  Jill Farnsworth, who joined MyMiltonKeynes BID as Chief Executive last Autumn, was formally appointed as Executive Director.

Paul Davis, Chair of MyMiltonKeynes BID, said: “We are delighted to welcome our new Directors.  Together, they bring a huge amount of expertise to the mix, which will help steer the BID through the next few years and beyond.  Milton Keynes was ranked as the most competitive city in the UK in 2023 and we’re seeing the city centre evolving and growing rapidly.  As such, and with Jill at the helm, the BID is taking a fresh look at how it operates to ensure it continues to add value to city centre businesses, with full support of the Board of Directors.”

As Special Projects Director, for MKDP, Adam Sciberras is leading on several exciting large scale urban projects to transform the city centre: “It feels like the right time to join the BID Board; to share insights and support the continued growth and development of MyMiltonKeynes and the city centre area.  I am looking forward to working work closely with the team.”

Simon Martin, a Milton Keynes resident of more than 30 years, took over as Centre Manager of Midsummer Place last August, he said: “I am delighted to be joining the MyMiltonKeynes BID Board. Retail is such an important segment within the city centre, but only part of the whole offer, so I am  keen to work alongside my fellow Board Members to position Milton Keynes City Centre as the go-to destination for work and leisure.”

As Chair of the city Barwatch group and General Manager at Popworld nightclub on 12th Street, Tom Miell represents the early evening and night-time economy businesses: “The hospitality trade across the UK is struggling as the mounting financial pressures make even successful, well-run establishments no longer viable – yet they are a key component in making a city centre an attractive destination. I am incredibly pleased to join the BID Board and support the important work they are doing to take on this challenge and drive the city forward.”

The BID is led by a volunteer Board of Directors who are experienced local business and community leaders.  They are responsible for setting the strategic direction, in conjunction with the CEO and for overall governance. A full list of BID Board Directors can be found here.
