MyMiltonKeynes visits Milton Keynes University Hospital following fundraising efforts

Embarking on a tour of Milton Keynes University Hospital, the MyMiltonKeynes team has witnessed first-hand the positive impact its fundraising efforts is having on patients, both young and old.

Last year, MyMiltonKeynes raised £3,000 for Milton Keynes Hospital Charity through its Spring and Winter Fashion Shows at John Lewis. These vital funds have gone towards the purchase of two new chemotherapy chairs for the Hospital’s Cancer Centre, and a new ‘BabyLeo’ incubator for its Neonatal Unit.

Raising double the initial amount pledged following the Spring Fashion Show at John Lewis, held in March 2022, led to the purchase of two chemotherapy chairs as opposed to one. MyMiltonKeynes once again exceeded its target during the second show held in November, and the funds raised went towards the specialist incubator.

Considered the ‘Rolls Royce’ of incubators, offering the latest in neonatal technology, the ‘BabyLeo’ is the fourth of its kind to be installed within the hospital’s Neonatal Unit. During MyMiltonKeynes’ visit to the hospital, they learned of the need for further incubators to support the one in ten babies in and around Milton Keynes who are born prematurely every year.

Vanessa Holmes, Associate Director, Charity and Fundraising for Milton Keynes Hospital Charity, comments: “MyMiltonKeynes continues to raise funds for us year after year, and we’re so incredibly grateful for that. Not only is it an absolute pleasure working with Melanie and the team, but to be able to show them the results of their time and effort is just wonderful. Thank you MyMiltonKeynes for once again choosing to support your local hospital charity and – most recently, contribute towards a very special incubator on the neonatal unit.”

Melanie Beck MBE, Chief Executive at MyMiltonKeynes said: “We were overwhelmed by the response to both the Spring and Winter Fashion Shows at John Lewis and the money raised as a result, so it was wonderful to visit Milton Keynes University Hospital and see how these funds are benefiting both the Oncology and Neonatal Units.

Milton Keynes Hospital Charity does a tremendous job raising awareness of the facilities needed to support the sick and vulnerable in our community. Now, as work begins on developing the multi-million pound radiotherapy unit, we are looking at ways to continue our support.”
